Darcy Graham ruled out of Nations Championship

Darcy Graham will miss Scotland’s November Nations Championship campaign and a significant part of Edinburgh’s early season after suffering a ruptured bicep during last week’s pre-season friendly against Harlequins.

Darcy Graham sidelined for at least 12 weeks

The 29-year-old winger suffered the injury in a collision during Edinburgh’s warm-up at the Twickenham Stoop. Graham was able to train on Monday before an MRI scan revealed the extent of the damage.

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt said Graham is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of 12 weeks, with Christmas described as the worst-case scenario for his return.

“Darcy Graham got a contusion on his bicep in a collision on the weekend. He was training on Monday when we got the MRI report that he’s ruptured his bicep,” Everitt said.

“It’s not an injury that you can rush a player back from. Some players heal quicker than others.”

Scotland lose record try-scorer for Nations Championship

Graham is Scotland men’s all-time leading try-scorer with 38 tries from 57 Test appearances.

His expected absence rules him out of Scotland’s November Nations Championship matches against New Zealand, Australia and Japan at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

He is also set to miss the Nations Championship Finals Weekend at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, from November 27 to 29.

Edinburgh hit by injuries before URC opener

Graham will also miss the opening months of Edinburgh’s United Rugby Championship campaign, which begins away to Ulster on Friday.

His absence adds to an extensive injury list at Edinburgh, with several Scotland internationals unavailable for the opening fixture in Belfast.
