Aviva Premiership salary cap to remain at £7m for next three seasons

Premiership Rugby has confirmed that the salary cap will remain at £7m for three consecutive seasons from next year.

It was in October last year the board had announced an increase of £500,000 to the existing £6.5m salary cap for the 2017-18 season and after the meeting on 6th September they have decided to retain the £7m for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons as well.

Premiership Rugby chief executive Mark McCafferty said that the announcement of the salary cap for the next three seasons will help the tournament in maintaining the competitiveness while also benefiting the club in planning in advance.

"We have a very strong and highly-competitive league," McCafferty said.

"Setting the salary cap framework through to the next Rugby World Cup season allows the clubs to plan ahead with certainty, as well as underpinning the continued delivery of financial viability and the clubs' investment in all parts of the professional game.

"This investment will help ensure the English game thrives at club and country level, and that we achieve domestic, European and international success."

The new rules also will allow the clubs to nominate two players, who will be excluded from the salary cap and they can also request for a replacement if their player is injured for three months or more.
