Australia lock Dean Mumm has been handed a one-week ban after striking with elbow on New Zealand lock Brodie Retallick in their recent Bledisloe Cup 2016 clash at Eden Park on Sunday.

It was in the 55th minute of the game, Mumm struck on the face of Retallick but the 32-year-old was not sanctioned by the match officials during the game which Australia went on to lose 37-10.

After a review conducted by the citing commissioner, he insisted that the incident should have attracted a red card on Mumm and the Waratahs star pleaded guilty to the charges laid on him.

Even though, such incidents are usually given a two-week suspension, SANZAR judicial officer Robert Stelzner said the ban was reduced to one-week considering Mumm's track record.

Stelzner said: "Taking into account mitigating factors including the player's early plea and his excellent disciplinary record, I reduced the suspension to a period of one week."

The All Blacks lock Retallick went off the field during the closing stage of the game due to concussion and is now a doubtful starter for the November Tests.

Meanwhile, Mumm will miss the Test against Wales which will be played on 5th November at Millennium Stadium.
