Les Kiss has named his first Wallabies squad since taking over as Australia head coach, retaining Harry Wilson as captain and promising continuity ahead of the two-Test series against Japan.

Les Kiss Names First Wallabies Squad

Kiss has selected a 34-man squad for Australia’s upcoming Tests against Japan in Osaka on August 8 and Townsville a week later.

The former Queensland Reds coach has made only three changes from the group involved in the Nations Championship matches against Ireland, France and Italy.

Harry Wilson Retained As Australia Captain

Harry Wilson will continue as Wallabies captain. Kiss said he wanted to keep key structures consistent and backed Wilson’s leadership. The Australia coach said Wilson had grown in the role and remained motivated to keep developing as captain.

“I’ve talked about evolution rather than revolution and making sure we keep certain things consistent,” said Kiss.

“I’m happy with Harry and I spoke to him yesterday and he wants to do the job. I’m really happy with what he’s done in his 23 Tests as skipper. I think he’s grown and he wants to grow further.”

Isaac Henry Set For Wallabies Debut

Reds centre Isaac Henry is the only uncapped player in the squad, coming in with Len Ikitau ruled out by an ankle injury.

NSW Waratahs prop Isaac Kailea replaces James Slipper, who returned from retirement during the Nations Championship but is now expected to be rested. Experienced lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto has also been recalled after missing the final matches under Joe Schmidt.

Josh Nasser, Hunter Paisami and Carter Gordon return after missing recent fixtures, giving Kiss more options across the squad.
