Rugby Australia have announced that veteran Laurie Fisher has been added to the coaching panel ahead of their third round of the Rugby Championship clash against South Africa.

The news follows after defence coach Matt Taylor has left his role due to "personal reasons" after the teams suffered a 47-17 defeat to Argentina in the second round.

Fisher is set to join the squad on Sunday as they face the Springboks at Adelaide Oval on 27th August.

"We're grateful Laurie has been able to join us at such short notice and would also like to thank the Brumbies for their support too," said Wallabies head coach Dave Rennie in RA's statement.

"He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience which will only benefit our playing group ahead of what are going to be extremely tough Test matches in the Rugby Championship."

The 64-year-old started his coaching career with Brumbies as forwards coach in 2003 before joining Munster on a similar role in 2008. He also had worked with Gloucester before taking up assistant coach role with Brumbies again ahead of the 2018 season.

“I’m excited to join the coaching group at the Wallabies and would like to thank Dave for the opportunity," he said.

“I’m looking forward to getting on the grass this week and contributing to the success of the group moving forward.”

Australia are positioned second in the Rugby Championship table with a win and a defeat apiece in the two games.
