Gloucester Rugby have confirmed the signing of Argentina international Matias Alemanno on a long-term contract with the Gallagher Premiership club.

Alemanno has played 61 Tests for Argentina since his international debut in 2014 and had represented them in the 2015 and 2019 World Cup competitions.

The 23-year-old started his career with La Tablada and Pampas XV and moved to Jaguares in 2016 but with the 2020 Super Rugby season disrupted by the pandemic coronavirus, the Argentina based side's players were advised to look for overseas options with New Zealand and Australia having their own local competitions.

"Matías is a fantastic addition the squad, and I’m delighted he’s joining us," said head coach George Skivington to the official website of the club.

"He brings a lot of the attributes we’ve been looking for in that area and we think he can continue to develop with us and compliment players we already have in the squad.

"He’s a physical and abrasive player, and his style of play will really suit the Gallagher Premiership, and we’re sure the fans will be looking forward to seeing him in Cherry & White."

Gloucester are positioned ninth in the Gallagher Premiership with four wins from 13 games and will face Worcester Warriors at Sixways on 15th August when the tournament resumes.
