Argentina centre Matías Orlando heads to Newcastle Falcons

Newcastle Falcons have secured the signing of Argentina international centre Matias Orlando from Super Rugby club Jaguares.

The 28-year-old started his professional rugby career with Pampas XV in 2012 in the Vodacom Cup before making on his Super Rugby debut for Jaguares in 2016. He went on to score two tries in the semi-final of Super Rugby last year helping Jaguares to first-ever berth in the final.

The 6ft centre made his debut for Argentina in 2012 and featured in 44 Tests for the Pumas including three appearances in World Cup last year.

“Matías has consistently shone at both international and Super Rugby levels for a number of years now," said Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards.

“He possesses a huge amount of quality both in terms of his skill set and work ethic, and it’s a massive boost for us to be able to attract a player of his standing in the world game.”

Newcastle Falcons went on to win all 22 games in the Championship in the 2019/20 season which guaranteed them a berth in the Premiership in the 2020/21 season.
