Beauden Barrett will make his first Test start at fly-half for New Zealand when the All Blacks take on Argentina in the Rugby Championship on Saturday.

Barrett comes in as one of three changes to Steve Hansen's side and replaces Aaron Cruden who injured his chest last time out against Australia.

The other two changes are also in the backs with Ma'a Nonu returning at inside centre after a shoulder problem and Israel Dagg taking over at full-back with Ben Smith moving to the wing and Cory Jane dropping out.

"There is a lot of respect for this Argentinian team," Hansen told www.allblacks.com. " Their last two performances against South Africa have been right up there and shows that they are capable of beating top opposition."

The All Blacks hammered Australia 51-20 last time out but trail South Africa by a point in the table and Hansen is still seeking improvements.

"The other challenge this week is on ourselves to repeat and improve on the performance against Australia," he added.

"That is about every individual - from the coaches to the players and management - being totally accountable for their roles within the team throughout the week and getting our preparation bone deep and genuine, both physically and mentally."

New Zealand team to face Argentina: Dagg; B Smith, C Smith, Nonu, Savea; Barrett, A Smith; Crockett, Coles, O Franks, Retallick, Whitelock, Messam, McCaw, Read.

Replacements: Mealamu, B Franks, Moody, Thrush, Cane, Perenara, Slade, Fekitoa.
