The first leg of the 1872 Cup derby between Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh becomes the latest United Rugby Championship fixture to be postponed due to Covid-19 outbreak.

Scotstoun Stadium was set to host the game on Monday but a statement from the United Rugby Championship revealed that Glasgow had reported "a number of positive cases" in the latest round of testing.

Edinburgh already had 17 players unavailable due to Covid or injuries ahead of the encounter with head coach Mike Blair set to miss after identified as a close contact with a positively tested person.

"The game was due to take place on Monday, December 27 in Glasgow, however, a number of positive Covid-19 cases within the Glasgow Warriors squad have been reported by the club," read the statement.

"The URC Medical Advisory Group has liaised with Glasgow Warriors and Public Health Scotland and deemed that the fixture cannot go ahead as scheduled.

"The United Rugby Championship will now consider available dates to reschedule the game."

The teams now are scheduled to face each other in the second leg fixture at the DAM Health Stadium on 2nd January.
