Wath Upon Dearne RUFC 1st XV finished the season on a high as they welcomed Heath to Moor Road for the final Yorkshire One League game of the 2013-2014 season.
The last couple of weeks had been disappointing but in similar vein to how they started the season a 40 point victory signed the season off well.
The game got off the a great start when 20 year old prop James McCarthy barrelled over for his first try for the 1st XV for the club he has been at since a child. Wath continued to keep the pressure on, on 17 minutes fly half Joe Bartlett produced a trademark side step and dotted down, Tom Quinn enjoyed a solid start landing both conversions.
Heath burst into life a period of sustained pressure saw the young winger go over and the conversion was on target 14-7. With half time fast approaching Wath finished with a bang, first inside centre Robert Booth powered over before the bonus point was secured on the stroke of half time by blindside Andy Beardshall, Quinn continued his impeccable kicking 28-7 going into the break.
It was the visitors who started brightest in the second half, a try for their centre was closely followed by a penalty but on 55 minutes this was cancelled out by a penalty from Quinn 31-15. The pace of the game slowed down somewhat before a final burst from the home side finished the game, and the season off in style.
First it was over to skipper Simon Lines for a trade mark try from a maul before leading try scorer Steve Mason capped off his season with a well taken try, Quinn landed one of the two conversions to seal a 43-15 win and a solid end to the season for the South Yorkshire Men.
