Wath Power Past Acklam

On Saturday Wath upon Dearne RUFC welcomed Acklam to a wintry Moor Road, although the visitors are propping up the league table they have shown continuing improvement and all agree it is only a matter of when not if they get their first win of the season.

With this in mind it was key that Lines’ men did not let their guard down. Wath got off to a flyer a fumble by Acklam was pounced upon by wing Steve Mason and he sprinted away to score the first try.

Acklam clawed back with two penalties in a first half that was a little slow to get going. In the second half and the home side began to turn things up a notch, the pack had a strong platform which saw two trademark tries from second row Simon Lines following driving mauls. The third try from a maul saw Number 8 Arran Tasker with the ball over the line.

The try of the afternoon came with 10 minutes to go, full back Tom Quinn produced a sublime piece of skill when he chipped a lose ball into his own arms before racing close to the line, the youngster was hauled down just short but the ball was recycled quickly and centre Martyn Bray dove over the line. Final score Wath 29, Acklam 6.

This Saturday is a journey to the seaside to take on Bridlington 2:15ppm ko.
