Saturday saw Donington travel to West Bridgford for a crucial match against West Bridgeford 3's. With local rivals Melbourne 2's moving to within four points at the top of the league, every point is vital, and every game a potential banana skin.
Just minutes after the kickoff, Bridgford caught Donington napping, to score a converted try. 7-0
Donington fought back with the pack driving to the line, with Mark Laxton picking up and powering through for an unconverted try 7-5.
A Donington misdemeanour led to Bridgford kicking a penalty for a further three points, 10-5 The two sides were evenly matched in both scrummage and lineout, and the larger Bridgdford pack were showing the upper hand, turning over several rucks.
The first half was very evenly matched, with neither team showing any great advantage.
Half time 10-5.
The second half, started more positively, and Donington dug deep. From a ruck, Rick Bentley made a break, feeding fellow centre Ollie Clarke to run in a peach of a try, converted by Max Adams. 10-12
Donington applied pressure, forcing a penalty, with Max Adams slotting it plumb through the centre of the posts.10-15 Donington battled hard releasing Alan Royer from the base of a ruck, for an unconverted try.10-20
Donington carried on driving and setting up rucks, again and again, Eventually, "Dan Keeling" picked up and went from a scrum, Alan Royer was the recipient, again going over for a pear, this time converted by Max Adams.10-27
Alex Hooley, back on the wing, was next to break through. From a rolling maul by the forwards, he received a pass from Ady Hacket to run in a try, again converted by Adams. 34-10
"Jean-Eude Michaud" put the icing on the cake, with a magnificent try, running through the Bridgford backs untouched. Converted once again by Adams for a final score of West Bridgeford 3's 10 Castle Donington 41
Last week did the team good, West Bridgford were a quality side, threatening to score on many occasions, but the Boys remained focused, and got on with the job.
Even with four disallowed tries, this was a convincing victory. Great stuff!
