With no score in the opening 10 minutes, it looked like there might be a repeat of the draw last season. However, Wasps opened the scoring with a well-worked try after a period of pressure on the Richmond line. Wasps shifted the ball out to Michaela Staniford who had a clear run to score under the posts. Hannah Edwards converted. 7-0.

Richmond hit straight back with Rowena Burnfield evading tacklers with her footwork, 7-5. Ellisha Dee then found the line with one of her trademark scores from a few meters out. 7-10.

Sara Anastasi got the next scoring under the posts for Richmond, which was converted by Abi Chamberlain who then scored and converted a dazzling solo try to make it 7-24 at half time.

The try bonus point was secured early in the 2nd half by Molly Kinsella before Wasps hit back with an unconverted try from Laura Quinn; 12-29.

Fran Matthews, in her first full game back, created the next try for Becky Essex to score before Richmond’s top try scorer, Jo Watmore, got her name on the score sheet; 12-39. Matthews then got one of her own, again converted by Chamberlain; 12-46.

Former Wasps player Hannah Field got the final try, her first in Richmond colours, which was converted by Jayne Goodliffe taking the final score to 12-53. Wasps had most of the possession in the final minutes, but as had been the case for most of the afternoon, they couldn't make the most of their chances and had to settle for their two tries. Another fantastic Premiership match and Richmond will be looking for two more performances like that as they try to regain the title.
