Wales have confirmed that captain Jac Morgan will miss the remainder of their autumn international campaign after dislocating his shoulder in their 52-28 loss to Argentina.
The injury occurred when Morgan scored his team’s third try and forced his exit in the second half.
Head coach Steve Tandy described the injury as “a massive blow” and confirmed that Morgan will not return for upcoming Tests against Japan, New Zealand and South Africa.
As a result, the 25-year-old has been released from the squad and will focus on recovery.
In response to his absence, Wales have called up uncapped flanker Harri Deaves to join the squad ahead of their match with Japan at the Principality Stadium.
Hooker Dewi Lake will take over the captaincy for the remainder of the autumn series.
Tandy acknowledged that while losing Morgan is a setback, it opens the door for other players to step up.
"We’re all gutted to lose Jac – he’s a world-class player, as well as a great man off the pitch,” said Tandy.
“But this gives an opportunity now for someone else and Harri has been performing strongly for the Ospreys for a consistent period."
