USA flanker John Quill has been suspended for three weeks following his red-card incident in the recently concluded World Cup game against England at Kobe Misaki Stadium on Thursday.

Quill, who has played 36 Tests for USA was sent-off in the 70th minute following a shoulder charge to the face of England's Owen Farrell.

As a result, the 29-year-old appeared before an independent disciplinary committee chaired by Nigel Hampton QC (New Zealand) with former international coach Frank Hadden (Scotland) and former international match official Valeriu Toma (Romania).

During the hearing, the panel deemed that Quill's act was a breach of Law 9.13 that deals with dangerous tackle and was initially handed six-week ban that was reduced into half taking into consideration his conduct during the hearing and other mitigating factors.

As a result, Quill will now miss the remainder of the games in the opening round against France, Argentina and Tonga.
