At this early stage of the season in National Two South, it is always tough to say who will be challenging for promotion come April.

A weekend of derbies in National Two North last Saturday certainly lived up to expectations with high quality rugby on show across this division.

It was a day where results seemed to be going the way of the ‘favourites’. We should realise by now that in this division, that isn’t always the case.

Let’s be clear. After one full season which contained off the field problems and another campaign which showed snapshots of quality, Tynedale seem to be a side that is now on a mission.

I don’t think there were many ‘shock’ results in National Two South from the opening weekend, but one certainly stood out.

Sometimes the schedule for players and coaches can be unforgiving but as neutrals and followers of National Two North, we have an early season treat on our hands this weekend.
