Edinburgh on Friday have confirmed the signing of Tonga back-row Viliami Fihaki on a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old will make a switch from the English Premiership club Sale Sharks after a three-year stint. Fihaki joined Sharks in 2013 and made 13 appearances in the Aviva Premiership but he was a part of just five games in the previous season.

Having made his international debut in 2013 for Tonga, Fihaki has played eight Tests until now and has scored two tries in it. His last appearance, though came in July 2015 against the United States of America in Toronto. Fihaki was also part of the New Zealand provincial side North Harbour for four years before he joined the Sale Sharks.

Terming the move as a "great adventure", Fihaki is looking forward to join the familiar faces in the Edinburgh side.

"I've played against a few of the squad - Nasi Manu back in New Zealand and Will Helu in the Premiership, though I've also played with him in the Tongan team," he said.

"Of course I've played alongside Fowlesy (Nathan Fowles) at Sale and also with Phil Burleigh in a Chiefs development side.

"The move will be a great adventure for me and my family and I'm looking forward to getting involved."

Meanwhile, head coach of Edinburgh, Alan Solomons believes the addition of Fihaki will be a boost for the club.

"We are delighted that Vili has signed for the club. He is a big, powerful ball carrier with international experience.

"I have no doubt that he will add huge value to the team and look forward to working with him."
