Newport Gwent Dragons fly-half Jason Tovey has signed a two-year deal with Edinburgh Rugby after impressing the club with his stint on loan.

The 27-year-old Welshman, who arrived at coach Alan Solomons’ club in late March this year, scored 32 points in his four Pro12 appearances.

Tovey made his debut against Zebre on 1st April where he helped his side to secure a bonus point 29-0 triumph by successfully kicking nine points with the boot which included three conversions and a penalty.

The fly-half also managed to score a try against Munster, however, his side lost the match by 27-19 at Irish Independent Park on 29th April. Tovey justified his move to come on loan to Edinburgh, which allowed him to play some impressive rugby.

"Having the opportunity to come up to Edinburgh and play some rugby was definitely the right move for me and I'm loving it here.

"I couldn't have asked for anything more from the boys over the last six weeks, it's great being out on the field with them and I'm enjoying my rugby again."

Solomons expressed his containment in having the fly-half committed at Edinburgh and is looking forward to his contributions next season.

"It is terrific news for the club that Jason has committed to us. He is a quality fly-half and an excellent goal kicker, who has added huge value over the past month or so.

"He is also a first-class bloke who has fitted in extremely well to the squad.

"I believe he will make a huge contribution next season and look forward to working with him."

Tovey will compete for the number 10 jersey with Scotland international fly-half Duncan Weir who will be joining from Glasgow Warriors.
