Edinburgh have announced the signing of former Australia Under-20 winger Alex Northam for the upcoming season.

Known for his swift running skills, Northam has recorded a time of 10.69 seconds to complete 100m and is among the fastest runners in world rugby.

Having been part of the Sydney based club, North Harbour Rays, Northam joined French club La Rochelle on loan as an injury cover and now will replace Scotland international Dougie Fife at Edinburgh.

Speaking about the deal, Northam said he is excited to work with Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons and hopes his speed skills will prove handy to the club.

"I'm looking forward to joining the club and especially keen to work with Alan. We've talked about developing my game and he feels he can really help me.

"The boys here have told me the club's moving in the right direction and they've got a good team atmosphere.

"What am I looking to add to the mix? I'm hoping to bring my speed and pace to the game, to execute and finish on some of the backline plays."
