Sale Sharks have confirmed what many of their fans feared, as England prop Henry Thomas and former captain James Gaskell will leave the Manchester-based club at the end of the season.

The destinations of both players are yet to be announced; however, Thomas, 22, has been linked with Bath whilst flanker Gaskell, 23, has been with Wasps.

Thomas, who has two international caps, was recently included in England's squad for the upcoming Six Nations.

"'Jamma' and Henry are moving on at the end of the season and replacements are being sought as we speak," Director of Rugby Steve Diamond told the Manchester Evening News.

"We're confident that we will replace the lads and we wish them all the best. It's the nature of the beast that while some players want to stay, others wish to move on.

"With both Henry and 'Jamma' it's not a money issue as to why they are moving on - it is purely for rugby/lifestyle reasons.

"There is no rancour or bad feeling, and we'll wish both of the lads good luck when they do move on."

Former Welsh captain Dwayne Peel will also leave the club at the end of this campaign as he has already agreed a move to Bristol.
