Scotland winger Duhan van der Merwe insisted that he will put his team interest ahead of his try-scoring records after guiding his team to a terrific win over England in the third round of the Six Nations.

Van der Merwe became the first player to score a hat-trick in a Calcutta Cup game as Scotland defeated England 30-21 at Murrayfield last weekend. It was also Scotland's fourth consecutive win over England in the Six Nations.

The hat-trick meant van der Merwe has 26 tries from just 37 Tests and he is just one behind Scotland's record of most tries scored which is held by Stuart Hogg from 100 games.

"We want to start winning stuff as a team," he said.

"For me, the team is always first. If that means I have to give the pass and not score myself, then I have to do it. If I don't score but we get the win, I'll be a happy man.

"I don't know what it is, but I obviously love scoring against England so it's pretty special," he added.

Scotland are positioned second in the Six Nations table with two wins from three matches. They will be taking on Italy in the fourth round at Stadio Olimpico on 9th March.
