Stefan Terblanche Interview

 

1. How are you feeling about The Sharks chances this year in the Currie Cup?

We are looking forward to it and we will do our very best to defend our crown.

2. What did you think of the British and Lions tour which the Springboks won in 2009?

The Lions tours are still one of the traditional rugby tours and certainly needs a place on the rugby calendar.

3. How did it feel making your debut for the Boks?

Lovely day and memories and will always remember it.

4. Did you enjoy travelling the world with the Boks?

I certainly did.  I love travelling and seeing new places.

5. Who was your rugby idol growing up?

I didn't really have anyone famous but all the guys playing in my schools 1st team at school when I was at primary school.

6. So far what has been your career highlight?

There were quite a few actually. The Sharks winning the Currie Cup in 2008 and again in 2010 and also becoming the most capped 1st class player in South Africa. Plus winning 2 Magners league titles with The Ospreys.

7. Did you enjoy playing rugby in Wales for the Ospreys?

Loved every moment of it and still can't stop talking about it.

8. Are there any players that impress you from the Northern Hemisphere teams?

Shane Williams is a little genius and one of my favourite players of all time.

9. Who has been the toughest player you have played against so far?

Joe Roff the Australian.

10.You have been known to be a great finisher with a high ratio of tries for the Springboks, you must be proud of that achievement?

Always great to score tries and to finish the opportunities the team gives you are very important.

11. You have been at The Sharks for many years, what do you love about playing for them?

Great franchise and living in Durban is great. It's not just a team but a lifestyle.

12.How do you think South Africa will do at the world cup?

Think they will do very well and should come close.

13. As a successful professional what advice would you give to youngsters who are trying to make it as a professional rugby player?

Let your body develop naturally and enjoy all sports at school. There is still more than enough time after school to turn professional.

What do you do in your spare time when not playing rugby? Spend time with my wife and 2 kids( 3rd arriving in August), spearfishing and golf.

Thanks for all your great support, on and off the field. I know we put you through a lot but I can assure you that every time we take the field we go out to do our very best. Thanks again.
