South Africa’s No. 8, Jasper Wiese, has been handed a four-match suspension following a red card he received during the Springboks’ 45–0 victory over Italy in Gqeberha.

The incident occurred in the first half of the match when Wiese headbutted Italian prop Danilo Fischetti during open play, prompting the referee to issue an immediate red card.

Following a disciplinary hearing, the offence was judged under Law 9.12, which relates to striking with the head. The panel determined a six-match entry point, but the ban was reduced to four games due to Wiese’s early admission of guilt and disciplinary record.

As a result, Wiese will miss the following fixtures:

  • South Africa vs Georgia on July 19
  • Both Rugby Championship matches against Australia on August 16 and 23
  • The first Test against New Zealand at Eden Park on September 6

He will be eligible to return for the second All Blacks Test in Wellington on September 13.
