Bulls have confirmed that South Africa prop Marcel van der Merwe has rejoined the Super Rugby club.

Van der Merwe started his professional rugby career with Cheetahs and featured for Blue Bulls in 2014 with his Super Rugby debut also coming later that year. He went on to play for Bulls in 45 Super Rugby games and switched from the South African side to Toulon in 2016.

Having represented South Africa A and South Africa Under 20 sides, the 29-year-old played for the Springboks in 2014 and featured in seven Tests with his last appearance coming during the Rugby Championship tournament in 2015.

“I’m excited to confirm that I’ve signed with the Vodacom Bulls,” he said.

“Loftus (Versfeld) and the Bulls have always had a special place in my heart and I look forward to coming back home. I’ll see you all soon.”

The news on van der Merwe's signing comes after the club confirmed that head coach Pote Human will leave the club with immediate effect and director of rugby Jake White will take in charge of the club.
