Shaun Edwards will join Argentina’s coaching staff after completing his Red Roses consultancy at the end of October, linking up with Felipe Contepomi’s Los Pumas through to the end of the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

Edwards is currently working with England’s Red Roses on a short-term consultancy through the end of the WXV Global Series, which concludes with their match against the United States on October 30.

The 59-year-old left his role as France defence coach earlier this year after a highly successful spell with Les Bleus. Across his time with Wales and France, Edwards has been part of seven Six Nations title-winning campaigns.

He will now return to men’s Test rugby with Argentina as Contepomi strengthens his coaching team ahead of next year’s World Cup.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Felipe Contepomi, his coaching staff, and the Argentinian team at the end of this month and through to next year’s World Cup in Australia,” Edwards said.

Mario Ledesma returns as forwards coach

Former Los Pumas head coach Mario Ledesma has also returned to the national set-up as forwards coach.

Ledesma previously led Argentina between 2018 and 2022 and will remain on Contepomi’s staff through the 2027 World Cup.

The appointments come ahead of Argentina’s November Nations Championship fixtures in Europe, with Los Pumas due to face Ireland, Italy and France.
