Scotland international Blair Cowan has made a switch to Aviva Premiership club Saracens on loan with immediate effect.

Cowan, who joined London Irish in 2013 can be recalled by the Exiles on notice according to the loan agreement between the two clubs.

The 31-year-old, who has been struggling to find a place with Arno Botha, Conor Gilsenan, Ofisa Treviranus, Jake Schatz and Max Northcote-Green in good nick will provide cover to the injury crisis at Allianz Park.

London Irish director of rugby Nick Kennedy believes spending time with the European Champions will benefit Cowan in raising his game.

“We have a number of players performing well in the back-row at present, and this loan move will allow Blair to get some valuable game time under his belt,” said Kennedy.

“The deal also means that Blair will continue playing high-intensity rugby and this will stand him in good stead for a return to London Irish.”

Saracens are currently second in the Aviva Premiership table with 11 wins from 16 games.
