Saracens prop Alec Clarey has been handed a three-week suspension following his red card incident in the Heineken Champions Cup clash against Lyon.

The 28-year-old was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Lyon's Arno Botha in the 67th minute but despite his absence the Premiership side went on to win 28-20.

Carey faced an independent disciplinary hearing and was initially handed a six week suspension that was reduced by half taking into account his guilty plea, conduct during hearing and other mitigating factors.

He will be free to resume playing from 9th January but his suspension could be reduced by a game if he successfully completes a World Rugby coaching intervention course.

Meanwhile, centre Alex Losowski was handed a one-week ban for striking Lyon back row Theo William in the 41st minute of the same game.

The 29-year-old was handed a two week ban but was handed a full mitigation of 50 percent which meant he could be available for the club's Premiership game against Exeter Chiefs.
