Stormers 34-14 London Irish, DHL Stadium

Stormers registered their first win in the ongoing Heineken Champions Cup as they defeated London Irish 34-14 in the second round at DHL Stadium on Saturday.

Stormers got off to a promising start as Willie Engelbrecht crossed over in the 8th minute after collecting an offload from Steven Kitshoff. Manie Libbok kicked the conversion to make it 7-0.

The Exiles' response came shortly as Ben Loader raced looking to score their first points but was stopped metres in front of the line. Salmaan Moerat thought he scored Stormers' second try but was called off by the TMO following a forward pass from Steven Kitshoff.

A penalty kick from Libbok at the stroke of half-time meant the South African side completed the opening half with a 10-0 lead.

Stormers dominated the opening exchanges in the second half as Hacjivah Dayimani and Leolin Zas scored back to back tries and Libbok kicked both the conversions as they extended their lead to 24 unanswered points.

The first points from the visitors came in the 50th minute as hooker Mike Willemse dived over at the back of a maul and Paddy Jackson kicked the conversion. They thought they narrowed down the gap further but scrum-half Ben White's was ruled out by the TMO.

With Libbok scoring another penalty the scoreline became 27-12 before the closing stages of the game saw Will Joseph and Junior Pokomela exchanging tries as Stormers completed a 34-14 victory.
