Wales captain Sam Warburton will be undergoing a scan on the cheek to assess the extent of his most recent injury.

It was while playing for his club Cardiff Blues, the 27-year-old sustained the injury in the 13th minute of the Pro12 clash against Leinster which his side went on to lose 13-16.

The decision to take a scan comes after the flanker's visit to a specialist on Wednesday.

Wales will be desperately hoping for their captain to return in time for the autumn Tests which will begin with a clash against Australia on 5th November and will be followed by Argentina, Japan and South Africa.

Earlier, Warburton missed Wales' tour of New Zealand with a shoulder injury.
