Sam Smith Interview

We caught up with young Harlequins Winger Sam Smith, who has made a big impact at the The Stoop this season.

Q1. How is the injury Sam? When do you think you will be back?

Its okay, saw the surgeon on Friday and he said it looked good. Hopefully back for the Leicester home game.

Q2. How do you think the Harlequins are doing this year?

Very well, we were unlucky at the beginning of the season, losing games by a few points but have got into winning ways with some tough wins “ Northampton away etc. also shown the strength in depth at the club “ LV-Cup semis and Amlin Cup quarters.

Q3. How do you think the quins played yesterday?

Did well in tough conditions, not a day for running rugby, defended well and scored some nice tries despite the weather.

Q4. How influential are the quins fans at the stoop?

We have good fans at the stoop, shown by our excellent home record!

Q5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Hopefully still at the Harlequins, playing regularly.

Q6. What has been your career highlight so far?

Making my premiership debut against Gloucester last season and scoring tries for the Harlequins.

Q7. Can you see yourself running out at Twickenham?

If I keep working on all aspects of my game and improving and I got to play for England as a result then that would be amazing! But I have to just focus on myself and getting a starting spot at the Harlequins nailed down and anything that comes from that is a bonus.

Q8. Who is your Rugby hero and why?

Jason Robinson “ great player and really good role model.

Q9. What are you currently studying?

Politics, philosophy and economics part time with the open university. Going to take me six years but will be worth it!!

Q10. What career would you be in if you weren't playing Rugby?

I haven't got a clue, I'd be at university now in my final year, i'm going to do some work experience in the city whilst im injured so ask again in a month or so!

Q11. Do you have a mentor at the Harlequins who helps you with problems?

Mike Brown is very helpful, he helps me improve parts of my game.

Q12. Have you any close friends who play Rugby but aren't at the Harlequins?

Just all the guys I grew up playing England age groups with like Freddie burns, Tom Homer, Tom Catterick. Loads of those boys!

Q13. If any player could join the Harlequins who would it be any why?

I think we have a good enough squad!!
