All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a consistent selection policy ahead of their final Test of the year against Italy in Turin this Sunday.

Speaking about his approach, Robertson emphasized the importance of continuity and cohesion in team selection.

"It will be the best team for Italy," Robertson stated. Reflecting on a year that introduced 12 debutants into the squad, he highlighted the benefits of providing game time and fostering solid combinations.

"This year’s been a great year for us to play 12 debutants, get them in, get good combinations and cohesion going. And this week will be no different."

With some players entering their fourth consecutive game, Robertson said the balance of the team was critical, ensuring that the strongest lineup would take the field in Turin.

Robertson refrained from directly commenting on the controversial TMO decision that awarded France the match-winning penalty in their recent clash. The call, which penalized prop Ofa Tu’ungafasi for a neck roll, raised questions about foul play rulings.

"The law interpretations of our game and how everyone interprets that is what it’s all about," Robertson explained. He acknowledged the complexity of decision-making involving the TMO, referees, and assistant referees, but stressed the ongoing effort to simplify these processes.

"Was it foul play? That’s probably the question. The referee trusted the call," he added, noting the quick decisions required in the fast-paced environment of a Test match.

Robertson admitted he had not yet fully reviewed the France match but planned to analyze the game’s nuances thoroughly.

"The time to sit down and actually watch all the nuances of the game, the ebbs and flows, and the conversations, is important. It’s always good to watch it back."

As the All Blacks prepare for their final outing of the year, Robertson remains focused on refining his team’s performance and ensuring the side concludes the season on a high note against Italy.
