Handre Pollard set for Springboks return in Perth

Handre Pollard is set to return to the Springboks against Australia later this month after recovering from the calf injury that ruled him out of the remainder of the Greatest Rivalry series against New Zealand.

Pollard had initially been selected to start the second Test against the All Blacks in Cape Town before suffering the calf strain during training.

The 32-year-old has now recovered, with Rassie Erasmus confirming that the experienced fly-half is expected to feature when South Africa face the Wallabies at Optus Stadium in Perth on September 27.

Pollard has played only seven Tests over the past two years but remains an important member of the Springbok squad because of his experience, leadership and goal-kicking ability.

Franco Mostert also nearing Springboks comeback

Franco Mostert is also expected to return against Australia after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The experienced lock has been unavailable since suffering an injury during South Africa’s season-opening match against the Barbarians.

Erasmus is expected to make significant changes for the Wallabies encounter, providing opportunities to players who have had limited involvement during the four-Test series against New Zealand.

Springboks focus firmly on Baltimore finale

For now, however, South Africa’s attention remains on Saturday’s final Test against the All Blacks in Baltimore.

The Springboks lead the series 2-1 after successive victories in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

A Springbok victory or draw will secure the series, while an All Blacks win would leave it tied 2-2 with the trophy shared.
