Ulster Rugby has confirmed that record-breaking hooker Rob Herring has signed a contract extension, keeping him at Kingspan Stadium until the summer of 2026.

Herring, who holds the record for most appearances with 241 games for Ulster, expressed his pride and commitment to the club. “I’m delighted to sign with the club for another year.

Belfast feels like home to me now, and it’s always an honour to wear the jersey,” he said.

At 34, Herring continues to play a crucial role as a senior player in an evolving Ulster squad. “I’m enjoying my role as one of the experienced players in an exciting young squad.

"I look forward to competing on the pitch and helping the next generation come through.

"There’s a lot of excitement around the squad at the moment and hopefully plenty more special days ahead."

Born in Cape Town, Herring joined Ulster in 2012 and became Irish-qualified through his grandparents. His international career began in 2014 with a debut against Argentina, and he has since earned 42 caps for Ireland, the latest during last Friday’s narrow 22-19 win over the same opposition.

Herring is the second player to announce a contract renewal with Ulster this week. On Monday, versatile back Stewart Moore also committed to a two-year extension, securing his future with the province until the summer of 2027. Moore, who played for Emerging Ireland in 2022, is seen as a key asset for the squad moving forward.
