La Rochelle head coach Ronan O’Gara revealed that hooker Pierre Bourgarit will need three to four months of recovery after his latest injury setback.

Bourgarit, who was one of the try scorer for La Rochelle in their Investec Champions Cup win against Leicester Tigers was seen in pain as he left the field early in the second half. The news will be a big blow for both La Rochelle and France as the 26-year-old has been in impressive form since his return from the World Cup campaign.

“Pierre is definitely seriously injured. I don’t know how many months he’ll be out, but I’d say three or four at least,” O’Gara told reporters.

“We’re going to do everything we can to give him the opportunity to come back as soon as possible before the finals."

Apart from Bourgarit, O'Gara revealed centre Jonathan Danty sustained a head knock during the game and will undergo return to play protocols.

“Jonathan told me he wasn’t feeling well when he left the pitch, but he was much better in the dressing room after the match.

"He will undergo HIA2 protocols … the most important thing is the player’s health.”

France head coach Fabien Galthie is set to announce the 34-man Six Nations squad on Wednesday.
