England captain Owen Farrell said the decision to sack head coach Eddie Jones was "unbelievably disappointing".

The Australian was sacked following the team's dismal performance in the ongoing autumn internationals where they managed to win a solitary game from four games that came against Japan while they lost to South Africa and Argentina apart from a drawn game against the All Blacks.

The team also had a poor Six Nations tournament having finished fifth but made amends with an away series win in Australia during the summer tour.

With the World Cup just nine months away, Farrell felt Jones deserved a better finish with England after holding the role for seven years.

"It's unbelievably disappointing," he told BBC Sport.

"Eddie had been a big part of England rugby for a long time now and he has been one of the best coaches I have ever had so, for that, I'm massively thankful.

"We are disappointed it has finished early and we owe a lot to him.

"I have been around for a while now and not been around too many changes, both at club and international level. It's not pleasant to go through.

"I don't think it has come from the players. There is obviously stuff we all want to get better at from the results, but as players you look at yourself and see what you can do."
