Ospreys captain Justin Tipuric is set to be sidelined at least until new year following a broken thumb.

The 34-year-old sustained the injury during the recently concluded United Rugby Championship game against Dragons which his side went on to lose 5-20. He was replaced in the game in 28th minute by Wales captain Jac Morgan.

Tipuric, who has played 93 Tests for Wales announced retirement from international rugby in May this year.

"It's a significant loss because Tips has a massive influence on this group but we have to learn to live without him, said head coach Toby Booth.

"It's a real blow not to have him out there for us but we have to try and see the opportunity in everything.

"We need the other leaders in the squad to step up and drive the team forward."

Meanwhile, back-row James Ratti, who also sustained a shoulder injury during the same game is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks while centre Keiran Williams and fly-half Owen Williams are nearing return after sustaining a head and hamstring injuries respectively.
