Moana Pasifika has announced the signing of former Brumbies wing Solomone Kata ahead of the inaugural Super Rugby Pacific season.

The 26-year-old featured for both Tonga and New Zealand in the rugby league between 2014 and 2019 and went on to make 93 appearances for National Rugby League side New Zealand Warriors.

He made a switch to rugby union when he joined Brumbies in 2020 season and had played 15 games in Super Rugby. With the pandemic Covid situation restricting his return to Brumbies, he went on to join provincial side Auckland in 2021 but now becomes the latest recruit of Moana Pasifika.

Moana Pasifika head coach Aaron Mauger welcomed Kata to the club as they look to make a mark on their maiden outing in Super Rugby.

“Solomone has already had a remarkable career in rugby league, and so he knows what a professional and international environment needs to look like to be successful,” said Mauger.

“He has a great ability to run strong and stay upright in a tackle. That, combined with his speed, makes him an exciting prospect with ball in hand and we’re delighted to him in in Moana colours for next year.”
