Bordeaux Begles 17-26 Gloucester, Stade Chaban-Delmas

George McGuigan scored two tries as Gloucester came from behind to defeat Bordeaux Begles 26-17 in the fourth round of the Heineken Champions Cup at Stade Chaban-Delmas.

This is second win for Gloucester from four matches as they sneaked into the round of 16 while Bordeaux finished 11th in Pool A after losing all their matches.

Bordeaux got off to a brisk start with Matthieu Jalibert kicking a penalty goal from the tee in the opening minute and by the 15th minute the French fly-half found Santiago Cordero, who in turn offloaded to Jules Gimbert for the opening try. Jalibert kicked the conversion as the home side raced to a 10-0 lead.

The first response from Gloucester came in the 23rd minute when McGuigan dived over at the back of a maul to make it 10-5. Jalibert missed a chance to extend Bordeaux's lead with his three-pointer drifting wide and just over the half-hour mark, the hosts suffered a double setback with Mahamadou Diaby and Ugo Boniface sent to sin-bin for a a late tackle and deliberate knock-on respectively.

Gloucester seized the lead early in the second half as Albert Tuisue was released and went past a couple of tackle to score and Barton kicked the conversion. Just as Bordeaux returned back to full strength, Boniface went over after a series of pick and goes. Jalibert's conversion made it 17-12 but the fly-half was sin-binned shortly for a deliberate knock-on of his own.

Barton with three straight penalties to put Gloucester four point ahead before McGuigan completed his second in the 63rd minute with a touchdown at the back of a rumbling maul to take his team through.
