England international Marlie Packer has been awarded an OBE in the King’s New Year Honours for 2026 in recognition of her contribution to rugby and her role in England’s recent World Cup triumph.

Her leadership, consistency and physical presence have been central to England’s success, including their World Cup title, which ended an 11-year wait for the trophy.

Packer has been a long-standing leader within the Saracens squad and has also captained England during key periods of their international campaign.

Her influence has extended beyond matchday performances, with coaches and teammates frequently highlighting her standards in training and her role in shaping team culture.

The honour recognises not only her achievements on the field but also her wider contribution to the growth and visibility of women’s rugby in England.

Speaking after receiving the award, Packer described the OBE as a moment of pride and reflection, acknowledging the support of teammates, coaches and family throughout her career. She highlighted the personal journey from her early days in Yeovil to becoming a World Cup winner and senior international figure.

“It’s a huge honour to receive this prestigious award alongside some of my team mates. The little girl from Yeovil wouldn’t have ever dreamed of going on to be a double world Champion let alone receive an OBE.

"I am so grateful for what rugby has given me. A sense of purpose, life long friends and memories I will cherish forever.

"This year has been incredible and I feel super proud to have been a part of the Red Roses winning a home World Cup. I want to thank everyone for their continued support, especially my family who have been there through it all".

Other figures from England’s women’s programme were also recognised in the honours list, including head coach John Mitchell and former international Zoe Stratford with OBEs, while Megan Jones, Sadia Kabeya and Ellie Kildunne received MBEs.
