After a great opening weekend of rugby from the Six Nations we look at the stand-out players competiting for the Lions' jerseys come June.

15 Stuart Hogg (Scotland) - Easily the player of the weekend, two tries in a match of that magnitude shows the type of big-game performer he is.

14 Sean Maitland (Scotland) - Provided some key interventions in such a tight game, the try-saving tackle on Rob Kearney didn't hurt his cause either.

13 Jonathan Davies (Wales) - Stepped into life in the second half, much like the rest of the Welsh side, needs to start with the same vigor.

12 Owen Farrell (England) - A worthwhile playmaker outside 10, kicking on point and a great authority on the pitch.

11 Liam Williams (Wales) - Stood out for Wales, a natural footballer, provides a spark when there looks to be nothing developing.

10 Finn Russell (Scotland) - A nod goes to Paddy Jackson, but Russell brought his Warrior form onto the international stage once again, occastrated well behind a industrious Scottish pack.

9 Greig Laidlaw (Scotland) - Captained as confident as ever, first 6 Nations week 1 win for Scotland in over 10 years, great with the boot too.

8 CJ Stander (Ireland) - Moved him from 6 to 8, carried like an 8, tackled and enforced like a 6, solid shift.

7 Hamish Watson (Scotland) - Big boots to fill from Hardie but worked tirelessly in the short time on the pitch, very impressive coupled with his substitute John Barclay.

6 Sam Warburton (Wales) - Shifted by Tipuric to the blind side but didn't sway his workload, pulled a lacklustre first-half into life.

5 Richie Gray (Scotland) & 4 Jonny Gray (Scotland) - Gray brothers came into their own, huge defensive effort, Jonny top of the tackle stats with a ridiculous 27.

3 Tadhg Furlong (Ireland) - Almost an identical game from both the tough Irish props, took the upper hand at set piece and carried as well as you'd expect.

2 Ken Owens (Wales) - Always puts his hand up for the hard yards, tough as an old boot, stood up against a battling Italian pack in the early exchanges.

1 Jack McGrath (Ireland) - He's making it hard for Healy to get the starting jersey, huge scrum effort, embarrassment of riches when these 2 are in your side.
