Lions have confirmed that Springboks lock Marvin Orie has decided against renewing his contract with the Johannesburg based club.

Orie started his professional rugby debut with Currie Cup side Bulls in 2012 and went on to make his Super Rugby debut for Bulls two years later. He switched to Golden Lions in the 2017 and in the same year also played for Lions with the club finishing runners up in the Super Rugby competition in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The 27-year-old played for Pretoria university side UP Tuks in the Varsity Cup competition, helping them win the competition for the second consecutive season and also captained the Junior Boks at the 2013 IRB Junior World Championship.

He made his international debut for the Springboks under Rassie Erasmus in June 2018 against Wales and has played three Tests overall with his last appearance coming during the 2019 Rugby Championship.

“Wishing Marvin Orie all the best for the future,” posted Lions in their official social media Twitter account.

“Thanks for the memories.”
