Wasps have confirmed that All Blacks fly-half Lima Sopoaga will leave the club at the end of the ongoing season.

The 30-year-old joined Wasps in 2018 after spending eight seasons with Super Rugby club Highlanders and has gone on to represent the club in 36 Premiership games.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to play for Wasps over the last three seasons.

“I have made some great friends during my time at the club, and I will give my all for the rest of the season.”

Sopoaga also had represented New Zealand in 16 Tests between 2015 and 2017 apart from featuring for New Zealand Under 20 and Barbarians also in the past. He will now shift to Top 14 cub Lyon ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Wasps head coach Lee Blackett said thanked Sopoaga for his contributions and wished him good luck for his stint in France.

“I would like to thank Lima for all his effort during his time at the club.

“We wish Lima, his children Milla, Isla and Salote, and his partner Miriam all the best for their future in France.”

Wasps are positioned ninth in the Gallagher Premiership table with six wins from 15 games.
