Leicester Tigers have secured the signing of Welsh centre Joe Thomas ahead of the 2019/20 season.

A former Wales Under 20 international, Thomas, made his professional rugby debut with Ospreys in 2015 and had a brief loan stint with Dragons in 2017.

Leicester Tigers head coach Geordan Murphy had praise for Thomas and his skills as he welcomed the 23-year-old to the Premiership club.

“Joe has a very good skill-set, he was highly rated on his way through the ranks in Wales and now he is keen to come in here and take on a new challenge with Leicester," he said.

Meanwhile, Thomas is looking forward to his debut in the Premiership with the Welford Road unit.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to join Leicester Tigers. They are a massive club in the Gallagher Premiership with a big history of success.

“I can’t wait to get started. It will be great to be able to learn off some great coaches and compete and play alongside great players.”

Newcastle-born fly-half Johnny McPhillips has also been signed by Leicester Tigers from Ulster Rugby while they have already announced the signings of ordan Taufua, Tomas Lavanini, Calum Green, Noel Reid, Jaco Taute, Nephi Leitigaga and Charlie Clare for the new season.
