Leicester Tigers have confirmed the appointment of Aled Walters as the Head of Physical Performance ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Walters, who has completed his MSc in the University of Edinburgh worked as Head of Strength and Conditioning with Taranaki Rugby Football Union in 2009 and joined Brumbies as Athletic Performance Coach two years later.

He held a similar role with Munster between 2012 and 2018 before joining South Africa in March 2018 as Head of Athletic Performance and had played a key role in South Africa's World Cup triumph last year.

“It’s a genuine privilege and I don’t take leaving a World Cup team lightly,” he told in a statement released by the club.

“It’s a very similar challenge to a couple of years ago, when I was approached to join the South African team who were playing below par.

“I see this as a similar scenario, and what I know first-hand is that things can change, but it takes a lot of hard work and only happens if everyone buys into it.

“The challenge wouldn’t be as attractive if I didn’t believe there were things in place to turn things around and get the job done.”
