Ireland’s standout flanker, Josh van der Flier, has been voted the Player of the Series for the 2024 Autumn Nations Series.

The announcement follows a closely contested fan poll where van der Flier secured 37% of the vote, narrowly edging out South African winger Cheslin Kolbe, who garnered 34%.

The Leinster forward and 2022 World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year has once again demonstrated his exceptional consistency and high performance throughout the campaign, solidifying his reputation as one of rugby's elite players.

Van der Flier’s contributions were pivotal across Ireland’s campaign, which saw the team grow stronger after an initial loss to New Zealand.

  • Against New Zealand: The flanker showcased his breakdown dominance, disrupting the All Blacks’ flow and scoring Ireland’s only try in a hard-fought match at Aviva Stadium. Despite Ireland’s 22-16 defeat, van der Flier’s impact was undeniable.
  • Against Argentina: He was instrumental in the narrow 22-19 victory, leading the defensive effort with 24 tackles while making 14 carries and beating three defenders.
  • Against Fiji: Van der Flier adapted to a more attacking role, facilitating scores for teammates and crossing the line himself in a commanding 52-17 win.
  • Against Australia: In the final 22-19 victory, he was involved in two key build-ups and contributed to the decisive ruck that sealed the result.

Van der Flier’s overall numbers underline his dominance across the series:

Three tries
27 carries
45 tackles
101 rucks hit
