New Zealand Rugby has confirmed that Highlanders fly-half Josh Ioane has joined the squad ahead of the Test against Tonga in Hamilton on 7th October.

The 24-year-old will provide cover to Richie Mo'unga, who pulled out in the 52nd minute during the second and final Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia in Auckland following a shoulder injury.

All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen revealed that Mo'unga's injury is not as serious as initially anticipated and should be available for the World Cup.

Ioane was part of New Zealand's Rugby Championship squad and was included as a replacement in the tournament opener against Argentina but did not make it on to the field.

Following the game against Tonga, the All Blacks will begin their World Cup campaign against South Africa in Yokohama on 21st September.
