New Zealand international Jordie Barrett is likely to miss out the opening game of Super Rugby Aotearoa for Hurricanes following an injury.

Hurricanes are set to kick-start their campaign on 14th June, Sunday against Auckland Blues at Eden Park with clash between Jordie and Beauden was one of the most anticipated contest.

Beauden will feature for Blues for the first time since his switch from Hurricanes to the Auckland based club but revealed that Jordie is unlikely to play the encounter.

“Jordie probably won’t be playing,” said Beauden during the press conference on Tuesday.

Earlier, Hurricanes confirmed that Jordie did not take part in the training on Tuesday following a shoulder injury while a report in NZME said the 23-year-old is expected to be out of action for at least three weeks.

Meanwhile, Chiefs captain Sam Cane is also expected to miss the opening game against Highlanders on Saturday following a stiff back.

New Zealand government had eased down all the restrictions created following the pandemic coronavirus which will allow fans to flock the stadium in full strength for the upcoming competition.
