England head coach John Mitchell had high praises for the red roses team following their Grand Slam triumph in the recently concluded Women's Six Nations tournament.

Playing in front of 28,000 at Stade Chaban-Delmas, England scored five first half tries through Maud Muir, Alex Matthews, Megan Jones, Marlie Packer and Amy Cokayne taking them to a 14-35 lead.

Their second half performance was aided with France losing Assia Khalfaoui to red card with Matthews scoring her second try to steer them to a 21-42 win.

This was also England third consecutive Grand Slam triumph and a record sixth successive Six Nations title as they are yet to lose a game since Mitchell took over in autumn last year.

"We always knew this was going to be an arm wrestle," said Mitchell.

"We've been looking forward to that for some time now, and the girls stood up really well today.

"You can never underestimate this tournament, it's our bread and butter and where we earn our respect.

"We wanted to stay the best, and we've chipped away and been able to achieve that.

"We're still driven by filling Twickenham and the girls deserve this kind of environment. They've earned it."
