England prop Joe Marler is at the risk of facing a sanction from the Rugby Football Union (RFU) after targeting former Australia coach Bob Dwyer with an obscene remark.

Dwyer accused England prop Dan Cole of scrummaging illegally in the first Test against Australia in Brisbane which Eddie Jones' men went on to win 39-28.

"How anyone could have allowed Dan Cole to scrummage the way he did was absolutely beyond me," said the former Wallabies coach.

This was not the first time Dwyer has hogged the spotlight, as the 75-year-old even criticised Marler of scrummaging illegally ahead of the England's 2015 World Cup encounter against Australia.

Notwithstanding the comments from Dwyer, Marler, who earlier withdrew from the Australian tour went to the social media platform Twitter to respond.

"Bob Dwyer is a w*****," Marler wrote on his official Twitter account, @JoeMarler.

With RFU having a strict guidelines on the usage of social media networks by the Elite Player Squad, the 25-year-old is likely to be reprimanded by the board.

Marler was earlier fined £20,000 and was handed a two-week ban for his comments on Wales prop Samson Lee during the Six Nations tournament and then was banned for two more weeks for involving in a kicking incident with Grenoble hooker Arnaud Héguy while representing his club Harlequins following which he turned to sports psychologist Jeremy Snape to address the issue.
