Jimmy Gopperth and Malakai Fekitoa to leave Wasps at end of season

Wasps have confirmed that Jimmy Gopperth and Malakai Fekitoa will be leaving the club at end of the ongoing 2021/22 season.

Gopperth joined Wasps in 2015 and is in the sixth position in most points scored in the history of the competition with a tally of 1636 that also includes a stint with Newcastle Falcons between 2009 and 2013.

He also had represented Junior All Blacks on two occasions that came during 2006 Pacific Nations Cup in clashes against Tonga and Samoa.

“Thank you to everyone at Wasps for what has been an amazing seven years for me and my family," he told the club's official website.

“Huge thanks to Dai and Derek for bringing me to the club and since then to the coaches, players, and back-room staff past and present for making my time here so memorable.

"The Wasps jersey is one I’ve been incredibly proud to wear. To the fans…you guys are incredible. You have helped in creating some amazing memories and moments that will stay with me, and hopefully you too, forever.

“This season isn’t done, and I’m looking forward to contributing what I can and giving 100% to the jersey and to the club right till the very end.”

Meanwhile, Fekitoa, who had represented Auckland, Blues, Highlanders and Toulon in the past, joined Wasps in 2019 has played 24 times for New Zealand and will now head to Munster in the summer.

“Thank you to everyone here at Wasps for these three incredible years, full of learning, new challenges, friendships and unforgettable experiences," said Fekitoa.

“It has been a great honour to represent this proud Club. I feel very lucky to have been part of this team.

“There’s still a long season ahead and I am going to give everything I’ve got until the last game.”

Wasps are positioned 8th in the Gallagher Premiership table with six wins from 13 games and will face Exeter Chiefs next on 5th February at Sandy Park.
